Hey again. Another question ive stumbled upon is this. Just wanted to check that its right/ how I can improve this.
Its regarding the electron transfer that take place in reactions 4-5 and 5-6
I know that the Fe electron config for 4 is [Ar] 3d6 4s2
Fe4+ in 5 is [Ar] 3d4
Fe3+ in 6 is [Ar] 3d5
O in 4 is [He] 2s2 2p4
O in 5 is [He] 2s2
O in 6 is [He] 2s1
ie from reaction 4 to 5 Fe has been Oxidised and Oxygen has been reduced. Electrons have been transferred from the oxygen to the iron in the formation of the Fe=O bond.
In reaction 5 to 6 Iron has been Reduced and Oxygen has been oxidised.
Cheers
