What does Benedict's solution tests for?

Can someone plaese clarify what Benedict's solution tests for. I know it is reducing sugars, but the process differs from source to source.  Some say it is the aldehyde group which is oxidised and reduces the Copper(II) to Copper(I), others say it is the anomeric carbon (because it is easily oxidised) which reduces the Copper(II) ions.

The anomeric carbon is the aldehyde/ketone carbon in a reducing sugar.

I've just thought.  If I look at the cyclic glucose molecule, I cant find an aldehyde or ketonal group.????? ???
