I'm about to do an experiment by putting down a piece of coppar and a piece of iron in different glases. Explained beneath:
Glas #1: A piece of iron + regular water.
Glas #2: A piece of coppar + regular water.
Glas #3: A piece of iron + water with 3% NaCl (weight percent).
Glas #4: A piece of coppar + water with 3% NaCl (weight percent).
So basically I want to find out the reason on what makes the iron becoming rusty and what makes the coppar turn verdigras. Also, while I mentioned it, if I put some salt into the water with the piece of iron or coppar, will that change the reaction?
I thank you the kindest in advance.
Edit: also, would something happen if I poured some vinegar into the water (with or without NaCl)?
