Hi, i've been reading this protocol and i came across a part that says "the solvent was removed under a stream of nitrogen", i have never done this and my supervisor hasn't been particularly helpful. I am wondering what this actually means and how you do it?

Which solvent and what product it contains. Some chemicals are sensitive to oxygen. So at could be you have to put a nitrogen gas inlet in your destillation system.

Or the substance could be simply put in an open vial, with or without gentle heating, and dry nitrogen "sprayed" over the top of the solution in the vial.  You can use a rubber tube, or use a Pasteur pipette as a nozzle.  In any case, you try to just barely disturb the top of the solvent, and avoid splashing.  Many solvents evaporate pretty rapidly this way.

No problem.  Of course, you do this work in a fume hood.  Also, this sort of procedure, done in a fume hood, is only really allowed for experimental scale products.  Bulk release of solvent out the top of the fume hood likely violates environmental standards.
