Asymmetric synthesis of (S,S)-hydrobenzoin
« on: November 23, 2012, 05:23:13 PM »
How would I go about a synthesis for (S,S)-hydrobenzoin in enantiomeric excess?

I know asymmetric dihysroxylation with osmium tetroxide would work for synthesis but this gives a racemic product.

I need a synthesis that has S,S enantiomeric excess without resolution.

Thanks

Here is an Org. Syn prep of the (R)(R) enantiomer, perhaps the other catalyst isomer is available?
