Hi to all,

Can someone explain me the difference between 'polymeric drugs and polymeric drug conjugates' that are being develop in drug delivery system?

thank you very much..

The way I would guess this is, is that in polymeric drugs the drug is the actual polymer. So for instance if styrene was a drug, then polystyrene could be a polymeric drug. However, for polymeric drug conjugates, the conjugate is the polymer, so for instance we had something like asprin bonded to cellulose, the cellulose would be the polymeric conjugate. Could be wrong, does google or similar help?

thank you sjb.
I did literature studies regarding polymer therapeutics. Yet confusing because there are not much detail about polymeric drug concept.
OK, let me explain what am I going to do.

I going to attach a drug to chitosan via amidation bond. The components present in my study is a drug, polymer and linker.. (Is that will be consider polymeric drug concept?)

As i search from literature, the components present in polymeric drug conjugate are polymer, drug, solubilising group, spacer and targeting moiety..

I want a clear picture of the difference in both concepts as I couldn't find much info about polymeric drug.

thank you very much.

The problem is that "polymer drug" is not a particularly well-defined concept. There have been a wide variety of proposals for combining polymers with drugs - there are almost as many concepts of what a polymer drug is as there are researchers.

This review describes a few of the more promising systems and might help you get started in finding the area of research you are looking for:
