Ferrofluid suspension
« on: March 12, 2013, 01:06:14 PM »
I am trying to make a suspension of ferrofluid in a clear solution. For the ferrofluid, I am using MICR ink toner and I will possibly be combining that ink with something. I have heard that vegetable oil works well. I would like to suspend this ferrofluid in a clear solution and contain that whole mixture in a glass bottle.

The things I am most interested in is complete separation of the ferrofluid and clear solution. I am also a little concerned about the toner sticking to the glass. If anyone has any insights into what would work best as a solution or just any tips would be helpful. Sorry I don't know that much about the materials involved and their interactions.

Please try a search on this forum, the topic at hand is very common.  I was going to link you to them, but there have been at least 20 threads (some more useful than others) and you really need to start with more in mind than "just any tips."
Hey, I'm not judging.  I just like to shoot straight.  I'm a man of science.

All the other posts seemed to only talk about synthesis. I am mainly concerned about what clear liquid will give me best suspension and separation between itself and the magnetic ink toner.
