Geometrical isomerism of cycloalkanes
« on: March 22, 2013, 09:53:46 AM »
Hi
I am having trouble with geometrical isomerism
suppose that two  four membered rings lie on either side of a carbon and those rings are additionally attached to two methyl group
will the structure show geometrical isomerism??

two  four membered rings lie on either side of a carbon and those rings are additionally attached to two methyl group

This is ambiguous, please draw the structure.

You can use smiles (see here) or add a picture as an attachment by pressing the "additional options..." button underneath the reply text box.

Do you mean something like this?

C1CC(C)C1=C=C2C(C)CC2

Can you tell me how to generally deal with problems which have 4 C ring structure attached to a carbon?

Start by looking up the definition of geometric isomerism - what is it?
