Hi,

Can anyone tell me how to turn a solvent such as turpentine substitute or white spirit from a runny liquid into a gel or similar stiffer consistency. 

I guess it would need the addition of whatever paint manufacturers put into liquid gloss paint to make it non-drip paint ?

140 views but no answers !   Does this mean that what I've asked is impossible ?

To repeat, I'm trying to find something that will change a common solvent such as white spirit from a runny liquid to a thicker consistency. 

I've tried all manner of additives from the kitchen cupboard and garden shed.  I've tried the dry flakes and powder used to make up wallpaper paste, and liquid-absorbant stuff like tapioca.  Plenty of things make water thicker, but I can find nothing that thickens a  solvent.

I'm guessing it needs something "chemical" that dissolves in and thickens solvent, but that's way outside my current sphere of knowledge.

Can anyone help me, please ?   If only to tell me it's impossible !

Elementis makes a whole line of thixotropes that will do precisely that. Bentone SD-1 is one of my favorites.
