gallium questions
« on: April 04, 2013, 08:14:10 PM »
I have a few questions about gallium.
1) How much of it is produced/used each year?
I am having trouble finding this information
2) Out of all the elements, where does it rank in relative abundance on cosmic scale? on earth scale?
I found that on earth it is about 0.0019% (5ppm) in abundance but I can't find anything about cosmic scale
3) Where is it found on earth in greatest abundance geographically speaking?
I am having trouble finding this information
4) What other element is it most chemically similar to on the periodic table?
Is it boron? I could be wrong but it was my best guess

This one is fairly trivial.  On a cosmic scale, everything else is a trace impurity compared to hydrogen.  I know we live on a massive silicate-iron rock with metric tons of other elements for use to make structures or objects with.  But the cosmos is made mostly of hydrogen.  But you'll have to search for a good  reference.

Hey, I'm not judging.  I just like to shoot straight.  I'm a man of science.

At cosmic scale, don't expect consistent data, because it's produced in stars, not from the big bang, hence is very unevenly distributed.
