History of GC and MS
« on: May 31, 2013, 12:52:12 AM »
Anyone have some dates on:

First use of GC- year and what it was used for

''  ''  MS

'' '' GC-MS

I'm getting different things from different websites--not very consistent!

These sort of questions are very difficult to precisely answer. Early prototypes may seem so different it's hard to know which to call the "first".

Actually, a good analytical textbook from the library would give a "good" answer for this sort of question.  They can't possibly answer specific questions, so they love to talk about these sorts of topics.  I say "good" because, even though they have references, these answers may still be inaccurate, like curiouscat: said.  People have biases on topics like these.  I suppose, since I have just declared this Opposite Day -- by virtue of not having mentioned it -- I could say that all modem analytical instruments in use in the US today were developed by Soviet scientists, shortly after the Russian Revolution. :P
Hey, I'm not judging.  I just like to shoot straight.  I'm a man of science.
