Intermolecular? Forces

Hi Everyone,

I'm a new member. Mainly joined to help me with my school work.

Question:



Currently learning about chemical retention/intermolecular forces..

Been asked how the following molecules might be retained...:

-H2O
-Benzene
-Toluene
-Xylene
-Small alcohols
-Styrene
-Small Ketones
-Aldehydes

I'm struggling quite a bit with this... can anyone help me?..

Also, is there anywhere I can find the relative strengths of interaction? i.e. quantify this interaction?

It is a forum policy that you must show your attempt at a homework problem first before anyone can help you.  Also, your question is a little bit vague.  Do you mean retained on silica?

Hydrogen bonds are reasonably strong intermolecular bonds. Which compounds can form hydrogen bonds?

Which interactions might be the next strongest? Which molecules could be bound by this interaction?
