I have found a problem from an old National Chemistry Olympiad and have been stumped by it. It is Lab Problem 2 at http://acswebcontent.acs.org/education/olympiad/2003/natl_03_part3.pdf. I was hoping somebody could shed some light on how to do this. I know it does have an example on the site but I'm not sure if it is just an example and it doesn't work or if it does and I was also wondering if there were other ways to do it.

i think i would try to use phen and AgNO₃... phen will indicate acid or base for you and AgNO₃ will form different precipitates with certain reactants to help you indicate which ones they are
