Synthesis from 2-cyclohexenona
« on: September 28, 2013, 04:43:26 PM »
I've found this exercise, and I'm getting a bit mad...

In need to synthetize this compound from 2-cyclohexenone

So far I think that I'm gonna need a Michael reaction, specifically a robinson reaction... But I cant figure out which ketone reagent is the apropriated to reach the final product. Do you think this is correct? In that case, any hint about what can I use?

I agree this looks like a Robinson annelation. I suggest you work backwards from that reaction, hint with ethyl vinyl ketone.

Got it. Reduced starting product to cyclohexanone, added -CH2Ph, and then just reaction with ethyl vinyl ketone will give the product.
