Suppose 364g of element X reacts with 10.0g of hydrogen to form 334g of the compound XH
2 with 40g of X left over and no H
2 left over. What is the atomic weight of element X?
I believe that the atomic weight is 65.32 which is very close to 65.39 which is Zinc. So I believe X is Zinc this is how I got it but I just need someone to check if I am right.
X + 2H
XH
210.0g of H = 9.92 mol
9.92mol H (1X/2H) = 4.96
40 grams of X left over so I do 364g - 40g = 324g.
324/4.96 = 65.32g which is about 1 mol of Zn. and Zn has a charge of +2 so it makes sense with the balanced equation. However, I am not 100% sure. Can someone check me? and is my balanced equation correct? Thank You =)
