please help me make a rubber solution
« on: October 11, 2013, 02:07:22 AM »
Hallo friends,
I am here to find out how to make a Rubber solution that is brushable and after drying it should be easily removable by rubbing with fingers. Like the liquid Pebeo drawing gum that we get in the art material shop.
I use one here, but their quality is degraded now.
I believe it is some simple kind of rubber mixed with solvant, without hardner. (smells like those transparent yellow solvant based glues).
Can you people specify me the ingredients if you know?
Thank you very much,
good wishes and blessings,
Neutrona

What you have is a very specialized application, and no, not every chemist knows all trademarked formulations.  I know rubber cement is simply typical buta-S rubber dissolved in hexane, but the exact grades of rubber and solvent needed to give the properties you need, I couldn't guess.
Hey, I'm not judging.  I just like to shoot straight.  I'm a man of science.

hallo Arkon,
Thank you for replying. and oh... hmmm, I was hoping someone might have tried making it by chance, and by mistake or deliberately it came out similar to specifications that I want.
Thank you again,
see you.

The properties of the solution are like- I apply the solution on a surface. It dries in 5 minutes. But it doesnt harden ever. I can remove the rubber coat by rubbing with hand anytime even after several days or months. It forms a thin delicate film.

That sounds like rubber cement. You may be able to fine tune the drying & viscosity with acetone & hexane.
In fact, I think I may try this myself & let you know what I found.

and to tell you, that, this solution becomes transparent (little yellowish).
Rubber cement must be something that is used in plumbing sealing?

Hi Billnototgatez, thank you. Yes, but they wont expose the formula of Pebeo drawing gum.
But another word used for my application is 'Masking fluid'. :)

Apologies if this is a duplicate post. The previous one seems to have been eaten.

@neutron7 - Rubber cement is not a plumbing sealing material. It is available at crafts stores with or without thinner.  It does dry to a transparent amber. It is often used to temporarily glue paper and mask off areas that should be protected from paint.

oh thats what I am talking, yes. It is. I have the one with thinner. I can pour. We get it in the craft store, but here, its the only one brand, and they have started to degrage the quality.
Thats why I felt to make it myself.
