Energy intensive processes that go well with peak load
« on: October 21, 2013, 08:48:53 PM »
I am looking for ideas on energy intensive chemical production processes that suits well with variable availability of energy (peak load). Electrolysis or some kind of high temp furnace that could run for 8-10 months of the year and could be shut off/on without high level of complication.

Any ideas?

Production of lime maybe. Or of electrolytic copper, aluminium...

Whatever the intermittent production is, you'll need a significant storage capacity, which is costly. That's more complicated with hydrogen.

Liquified air? At least the worst part of the storage problem takes care of itself.
