Please let me know if this is in the wrong forum/section.

I'm going to be cutting some vinyl records with a hot wire (it looks like this http://www.uchida.com/p-92-super-hotwire-foam-cutter.aspx#productDetailTabs)

I am making vinyl coasters, they look like this: http://www.servedraw.com/wp-content/uploads/recycled-vinyl-coasters.jpeg I plan to make 200 of them.

I googled and found http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20130622103313AAqjdBv and http://www.buildlog.net/blog/2010/07/laser-cut-vinyl-record-bad-idea/ but am not certain how credible they are. Needless to say, I am concerned about the fumes.

I plan to cut my coasters with the hot wire outside, with a fan blowing the air away from me (http://www.seabreeze.ca/fans/TurboAire/turboaire.html)

Is this enough protection? Do I need some sort of gas mask? What kind? Do I need a respirator with a refillable cartridge system? That might be a bit pricey, and I would opt to wait until I made and sold a couple dozen before buying something like that. Would that be safe? How lethal is burnt vinyl?

Is there maybe a better site to ask this on? Maybe I could find some sort of safety organization used by vinyl pressing factories?

Windy day, stay upwind and you will be fine.

A cheap respirator at home depot costs like 30$, it would be a good health investment if you plan on doing this more than recreationally.

What kind of respirator? How do I know which type will sufficiently filter the fumes?

and ask which we think might fit the bill
