Organic chemistry lab re: benzoin condensation
« on: November 03, 2013, 02:06:26 AM »
Hi everyone. I am doing organic lab, Benzoin condensation. After adding thiamine hcl with water and 2.5 ml of 3 M Naoh, the mixture turned yellow when benzaldehyde was added, and then disappeared (faded). Just need some help with what acid formed to changed the yellow colour and what caused the yellow color in the first place? Thanks
