Mesityl oxide reacting with 5-aminosalicylic acid
« on: November 05, 2013, 08:15:16 AM »
Hi,

This is an analytical problem, but I thought organic subforum was a better place for this problem. I´m trying to determine acetone and mesityl oxide traces in 5-ASA but the latter is not stable in DMSO when 5-ASA is present. I think Michael addition is happening and to avoid that I acidified the solution, but this probably catalyzes aldol condensation and doesn't help. Does anyone have an idea how to prepare stable solution of these components to analyze with HS-GC?

Thanks in advance.
