Good afternoon

I am Planing to conduct some experiment on mitochondrial respiration system. as a part of that i need little amount of KCN. but the problem was local suppliers are saying minimum order should not be below 1 kg. I need around 20 gm only. one of my friend said we can prepare KCN from formmaide and KOH. I searched in pubmed and google. but did not got much information how to prepare it. basically me and my guide from biological background. so kindly provide me procedure or give me details were i can find the protocol.

It is an extremely dangerous experiment, especially for an inexperienced chemist, and could result in your death. 20 g presents a very high risk.

For this reason, the details can not be given on chemical forums.

You could find an experienced chemist in your area to help you, but I would suggest that you find a different supplier who will sell you a smaller amount. KCN is extremely cheap, so even buying 1 kg will be cheaper than synthesising and purifying 20 g yourself.
