VLE calculation. Help pls!
« on: November 12, 2013, 08:01:20 AM »
Hi!

I was given this mandatory assignment:

A saturated liquid mixture consisting of 50 mole% 2-propanol (1) and 50 mol% 1-propanol
(2) to be separated by distillation into a distillate having a purity of 99.9 mole% of the light
component and a bottoms product having a purity of 99.9% by mole of the heavy component.
Distillation is peforemed at a total pressure of 1 bar.

From laboratory data the Wilson constants a12 & a21 has been determined.

From theese data construct a T,xy diagram and a x,y diagram for the mixture at 1bar.

I'm just stuck guys. Can anyone pls point me in the right direction on how to getting started.

BR. Thomas

Write the Wilson equation.

Write a general VLE eq.

Then we can help.

The wilson equation is as follows: See attachment

as u can see the parameters are temperature dependent

v1 & v2 are the molar volumnes which i have aswell.
