Metallic Bonding Structure
« on: November 17, 2013, 10:26:21 PM »
Hey!
My class is doing a unit on bonding, and we have an assignment for which I need to make a 3D model which contains metallic bonding. I was wondering if the nuclei of bonded metals (e.g. Cu) simply line themselves in a grid (e.g. http://www.kentchemistry.com/links/bonding/MetallicBond.jpg) or if there is some other pattern.
Thanks,
Ash ;D

In all solids nuclei "simply line themselves in a grid". It is what happens to the orbitals and electrons that is important when it comes to the bonding type.
