Naming compounds with two chiral centres
« on: November 22, 2013, 09:51:30 AM »
If one compound has two chiral carbons, one of them in R configuration and one in S configuration, for example in mesotartaric acid (see  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Meso-Weins%C3%A4ure_Spiegel.svg ), how to decide if one starts numbering closer to the R center or the S center?
