Polyurethane foams
« on: December 23, 2013, 03:30:22 PM »
Hi, I'm an artist who is interested in completing a series of work revolving around polyurethane foam as the main. Currently I have been doing my own research on the subject (and experimenting with the material), but I have very little knowledge about chemistry (I'v had a friend helping me to understand, explain and answer questions I'v had; but he doesn't have a wide understanding about the subject either). For the time being, I'm trying to find out about the following components and how they function together: http://puu.sh/5WmdF.jpg

My question is, is there someone I can contact to find out more about polyurethane foams and their components? Or is there somewhere else i should be going to ask my questions or a website someone can recomend?

thanks for your help :)

That's quite a tall order, there are quite a few chemicals there! It's going to take a while.

May I ask why you need to know this? Is it for safety or are you planning on making your own formulation or some other reason entirely.

Safety and knowledge. As an artist I have to explain a lot of my work; and knowing about the contents of what I'm using and how it effects the work I make is good to know.

I'll do my best, someone else may get in there before me but it shouldn't take long.

Could you tell me where this picture came from? was it from the internet or did you take a photo?

Use Google to look each chemical component up by it's CAS number

CAS numbers
9016-87-9
57029-46-6
53862-89-8
13674-84-5
63449-39-8
75-28-5
115-10-6
74-98-6
101-68-8

This will provide you with some of the information you need and also give you some questions you may like to ask on here.
