Removing Ethanol problem
« on: March 06, 2014, 10:38:47 AM »
I would be really happy to know your suggestions,,
My starting material is an amine and the first step is NCS/Et2O to get the chlorinated amine and the second step KOH/Ethanol to get the imine. Unfortunately, my compound has low boiling point and removing ethanol is a problem. Any suggestions, like different solvent or different base? I thought of methanol but is not mentioned in the literature and I am not really sure.

I would try MeOH or go the opposite way and use a high boiling alcohol.  Once the reaction is complete you could distill your compound out of the reaction.
When in doubt, avoid the Stille coupling.
