Mech. Question

It's Tuesday, and I'm having a brainfart writing a short quiz for my students……….Is attack on a nitro group by a reductant attacking the nitrogen?  I want to give it as a bonus question, but I have forgotten the exact chemistry of it.  Just a quick hint would most certainly jog my memory, but for some reason I am looking at my paper with a blank stare…..

You mean like Zn/HCl reduction? I think the protons attack the oxygen which leads to water elimination while the metal moves electrons to the nitrogen to yield hydroxylamine which then undergoes the same.
