how do aldehydes and ketones react together?
« on: April 02, 2014, 09:00:38 AM »
4 fluorobenzaldehyde and 4 methylacetophenone react to form a single product. This is heated under basic conditions. What is the product formed?

I have no idea how to do this. If somebody could please explain, I'd be very grateful :)

Try Google for aldol condensations.
Development Chemists do it on Scale, Research Chemists just do it!
