Hello,
I am carrying out adsorption tests on Phenol using activated carbon. While doing batch test for adsorbent dose, initially the Phenol removal percentage increased and reached a maximum of 77% for 0.5g/50ml dose. But as I increased the dose (1, 1.2 and 1.5 gm/50ml), the removal percentage went down again. Is this normal? I think the removal percentage remains constant for higher doses.
In another test conducted earlier I got a removal of 85% at 1 g/50ml so I know that the adsorbent is capable of reducing the concentration of Phenol more than 77%.
I am suspecting the particle size of AC to be the culprit because I think I used larger sized particles (>500 micron)for 1, 1.2 and 1.5g/50ml doses.
I would like to know is it usual to get such results when there is a variation of particle size in doses.
Thanks.
