Hi,
Can I use ATRP to polymerize a vinyl monomer containing a metal ligand ? like (bipyridine, or some polyaromatics which can possibly form a complex by pi-donation)
Since ATRP needs copper salts as a catalyst? How do I polymerize these monomers with ATRP?

In an AIBN free radical polymerization of vinylpyrene, I can obtain a polymer product. While using ATRP for this monomer, the reaction did not seem to proceed
I tried varying a lot of parameters. For example  initiator, ligands...etc And now I am suspecting that the pyrenyl group  has something to do with the catalyst in ATRP. I tried to add an acroloyl group and a styrenyl group to pyrene instead of vinyl and performed ATRP for these monomers, the result is that same. No high MW polymers obtained. Any suggestions would be greatly apprecited!! Thanks
