Ferrofluids
« on: April 30, 2014, 12:31:15 AM »
Was just wondering is anyone on here knows stuff about ferrofluids. I'm doing a  presentation on them for a chem class, and was just looking for more specific info.

I know ferrofluids are fluids with nano magnetite particles suspended in a carrier with a surfactant to prevent the nano's from clumping.

Wondering if I could get more in depth explanation of how the Van der Waals force and surfactant play their parts in keeping the nano's in Brownian motion.

Feel free to include chemical equations, compounds, etc. (I'd rather have a reply lean toward more detailed than simplified.)

Thanks
