Just wondering what would be the best way to clean a ceramic hotplate/stirrer? I don't want to risk damaging the surface.

A domestic cream cleanser is fine. Spillages of alkali, phosphoric acid and hydrofluoric acid MUST be removed immediately as these chemicals can attack and damage the glass ceramic.
