Sodium Bisulfite Solubility
« on: August 22, 2014, 01:50:14 PM »
I'm looking for the solubility of sodium bisulfite (solubility diagram if possible) but I can't seem to find it anywhere. Wikipedia tells me it's 42g/100ml of water at room temperature but I can't find the same information from other sources. Is there a particular reason why?

Thanks!

Sigma-Aldrich tells 390g/L at +16°C in the Msds
http://www.sigmaaldrich.com/catalog/product/sigma/s8890
and Merck sells a 39% solution in water
http://www.merckmillipore.com/GB/en/product/Sodium-hydrogen-sulfite,MDA_CHEM-806356

All data sources often result from one single measurement, so double checking tells you if they copied properly.

Fascinating.  I used to buy solid sodium bisulfite all the time.  Now your reference suggests I was simply buying sodium meta-bisulfite, and got a sodium bisulfite solution.  I wonder why no one ever mentioned that before.  Some time, I must check the references within your reference -- seems a bit muddled, jumping into metal salts like it does.
Hey, I'm not judging.  I just like to shoot straight.  I'm a man of science.
