Hello guys, I'm trying to do the oxidation of propyleneglycol to pyruvic aldehyde. Already have used calcium hypochlorite and DMSO. However, I have had a lot of trouble to purify and characterize the pyruvic aldehyde. Do you know another methodology of oxidation (cheap) and a way to purify my product?

I was the oxidation of n-propanol and iso-propanol hypochlorite. I Had good results in the oxidation of propylene using DMSO. The problem is the purification of pyruvic aldehyde, because I don’t find methodologies of purification. I found a methodology that utilizes sodium bisulfite, however the DMSO prevents the formation of crystals.

That's why I suggested a different systen for the oxidation. DMSO is quite difficult to remove.
