Woops  I was attempting to mesylate the primary hydroxyl of a sugar (Neuraminic acid) which also has a methyl ester and ended up mesylating all 4 hydroxyls (1 primary 3 secondary).  I can normally mesylate the primary close to 90% purity but just had one of thoes days.  Any advise other then start over?
