Setting up a reaction and Mol %
« on: November 10, 2014, 10:38:59 PM »
Hi,

I was following a procedure and came across Mole %. They had their limiting reagent reported as 0.05mmoles and then they wrote, to this was added X (3 mol %) and Y (1 mol %). Would these be equivalent to 0.03eq and 0.01eq?

As in

Starting material   100mg (arbitrary number)  1.0eq
X                         3mg                               0.03 (or 3 mol%)

or it has nothing to do with equivalence and it is instead

Starting material 0.05mmoles
X                      0.0015 (or 3mol %)
y                      0.0005

Thanks for the help,

Nescafe.

The second one is correct.
