To start with i'd like to say sorry if this is a stupid question, but i don't know any better and you might, i've been searching a bit on google and youtube, and now i came to you guys, any way.
i'm trying to produce phenyl isothiocyanate and in this method:
http://orgsyn.org/Content/pdfs/procedures/cv1p0447.pdfit say:
The mixture is then
distilled with steam into a receiver containing 5–10 cc. of 1 N sulfuric acid as long as any oil comes
over. About 2–3 l. of distillate is collected. The product is separated from the water and weighs
63–66 g.
"5–10 cc. of 1 N sulfuric acid" is it just 5-10cc. or is it compared to 98,09 g/mole or to the mole of lead nitrate or the mole in all?
About 2–3 litters(right?) of distillate is collected
and finally
"The product is separated from the water" and then they later on say "the oil is dried over a little calcium chloride" are they talking about the same thing or are the talking about a separator funnel first and then calcium chloride later on.
again i don't hope you find my question to stupid to answer, i gotta learn somehow, and i hope you will be able to understand what i say since i am danish
kind regards
André
