I know there's these things in cells called mitochondria, and they somehow make "energy". What exactly do they produce, and what reactants do they use?

Energy is stored as Adenosine Tri-Phosphate (ATP) in our body.
You may like to start by reading up Kreb's Cycle on the production of ATP in your body first.
Mitochondria harnese energy via hydrolysis of ATP.
The entire process is very complicated. You may like to start with the library near you.

I think I'll do that, thanks geodome. Library = out of my league until I actually go to a library.
