Replacing methyl and or hydroxyl groups with amine groups?

As the title implies. Is there a method or name for this so I can more easily find what I want to learn about?

Eg; replacing hydroxyl groups on hydroquinone with NH2 groups. Likewise with methyl groups on caffeine etc.

I dont see a way to replace  methyl groups in caffeine with amino groups easily.

There are ways to replace OH group with amino but Im not sure if they will work on hydroquinone since its aromatic and you would need to do nucleophilic aromatic substitution on electron rich system.

Generally interested in heterocyclic compounds with amine groups with their ability to form dyes when they are oxidised.

Benzene to m-phenylenediamine seems straight forward.

Speaking of which, replacing them with nitro groups, then amine would also be an option I guess.


But I want to explore other potential compounds, eg; caffeic acid, p-aminophenol, catechol, flavanols, polyphenols would be fine if viable.

Generally speaking, I want to get amine groups attached to a ring.
