Right solvent and process?
« on: January 11, 2015, 04:06:46 AM »
Hey guys, so I've got a whole bunch of Ephedra (ma huang) to extract and surprisingly enough all the info on the net is completely contradictory. Initially I tried the super heated still distill but managed a gram of product from 6 hours of boiling and about the same evapping.

I then tried a pretty simple A/B in which I basified the Ephedra/aqueous solution slightly with sodium hydroxide to make the alkaloids freebase and able to extract but that's when I encountered the biggest problem... I used Xylene and all it did was make a ridiculous amount of emulsions which won't seperate regardless of what I do. Knowing that Xylene has a tendency to do that I went and got 2 litres of Toluene which I haven't tried yet as I thought some advice would go a long way.

What do you guys reckon? Add ephed to water, freebase, leave for an hour or two, add a quarter of the water weight in Toluene and do it like a dmt extraction?

Also is there any way to freeze precip the pseud/ephed mix or is evapping my only option? Thanks guys ! :)
