Hi guys,
Im trying to replicate a Wastewater treatment process in the lab, one step is the filtration which I have been told can be replicated by a 'coarse filter or shallow sand bed'. I'm hoping to do this step via syringe filtration, would a 0.45 micron syringe filter be the appropriate filter?

I suspect you're heading for a serious disappointment.  The coarse sand bed will remove large amounts of chunky solid and thick sticky waste.  You're going to face a real problem using a membrane filter for that sort of solids.

You would be surprised how many successful coarse filtrations I have performed with nothing more than a coffee machine with your standard coffee filters!
