Mercury reactions?
« on: February 26, 2015, 03:45:51 PM »
 ???
Do anyone know how mercury (II)  reacts with Gold (III) Chloride?

How does AuCl3 preventing the reduction of Hg2+ to the volatile, uncharged Hg0 state?
Also, sulfamic acid is also known as an oxidizing agent to prevent mercury (II) from deposite out of the solution. But how/Reaction? ::)

:'( I would deeply appreciate whoever helps!!!

The first one will not take place because Gold is in its highest oxidation number and mercury as well, So to get mercury to 0, Gold hast to get higher number and that is not possible.

The sulfamic acid doesn't harm the mercury like also sulfuric doesn't harm it. To get it to 0 you need a reducher like tin-II, Vitamin C, hypophosphite and others.

Thanks, so if gold doesn't react with Hg at all,
Why do they add gold in rinse solution to prevent Hg carry over? (instrumentation: ICP-MS)? ???
