Ring Contraction

Below is a homework question.  When initially I look at it I see a tertiary alcohol.  Treat with some acid and we have a tertiary carbocation.  To get the proper regiochemistry, I have to do a hydride shift to form a secondary carbo cation.

That seems to me to not be favorable.
