I have a few tubes of steroidal cream, and now i am wondering if it is the steroids that are causing the observation i see. Only after a few weeks of opening and using the cream do i realise the cap splits in half diameter-wise, almost in half. Is it because it is a steroidal cream? If so, what is the reaction taking place between the cream and the (plastic?) cap? Not sure if any of you have observed something like this.

More like low quality of the cap. Besides, there are plenty of other ingredients in the cream, the active one is definitely in a rather low amount compared to water and oil which are main components of the carrier (ie "pure" cream, the basic white emulsion that is the base of all creams).

Carefully filling tubes and applying the proper torque to a cap are a science unto themselves.  Some people do it well, and some people are sloppy.

I do handle the cap with care, i dont see how hard it is to force the cap open or to close it too tightly. Plus it hasnt happened once only, but two or three times at the similar spot where it cracks.

I meant the manufacturer should test the caps ability to seal the contents when put on properly.  They should conduct trial with a torque-meter, to see how much force needs to be on the cap to seal the contents from degradation.  And that the caps themselves can survive being kept under that force.

I think the caps wont be affected by the force that it can withstand if the content inside the tube is paste/gel like.
