So I'm doing a chemistry experiment for class involving pool chemistry. My experiment involves adding different quantities of uric acid to 125mls of pool water and we are titrating for OCL-. But what doesn't make sense to me is that as I increase uric acid the amount of OCL- that i found when i titrated increased.
I know a higher amount of OCL- indicates a lower amount of HOCL so this trend expressed that as I increase uric acid the amount of HOCL decreases. But why is this? What redox or acid base reaction is causing an increase of OCL- when i add uric acid? any help is appreciated thanks!
