Hello everybody.

My original question is: would aqueous ammonia, lying on parchment paper, react with the wax?

but apparently people use ammonia to strip off the hard wax flooring. this can't be via a dissolving mechanism since you have a super polar substance, and a super non-polar substance.
 which would leave a reaction taking place. if i'm right so far, does this mean that ammonia would react even faster with the wax on parchment paper?

Wax is described as esters of long acids with long alcohols

I imagine a base (so weak?) may cut it, but the products wouldn't be very soluble in water.

It seems that ammonia and vinegar are commonly used to soften the wax in order to remove it. Ammonia can react with the ester to displace the alcohol from the carboxylic acid. I guess the best name for this sort of thing is ester aminolysis.

Parchment papers are generally the wax-free alternatives to wax paper in applications. Assuming you just meant wax paper, I doubt the rate would be significantly faster. The water only has access to the surface of the wax, whether on the floor or impregnated into the paper. The wax is thoroughly coating the paper so I doubt there is much opportunity for capillary action since the pores will all be hydrophobic. Adding surfactant would help.
