Hey,

I'm about to do a series of rxns where we quench out acid/base by addition of an appropriate ion-exchange resin, filter then concentrate.  Hopefully, avoiding the need for time consuming columns (reactions >50g scale).

Does anyone have a reference or any advice on preparing these resins before use.  I know they require rinsing but what with, and in what order?

Resins we're likely to use include: Dowex 50W, Amberlite IRA-68 and Amberlyst 15.  Any suggestions?

1. The original form of cation resin is Na-form, rinse the resin with distilled water or demateralized water(DM water) and regenerate (wash) the resin with 5% HCl and rinse with DM water until free from chloride.

2. The original form of anion resin is Cl-form, rinse the resin with DM water and regenerate the resin with dilute NaOH and rinse with DM water until free from chloride.
