Dinuclear complex formulation

Hello everyone,

I'm starting to write my PhD thesis and, as most people do, I started with the experimental section. In a few words, I've prepared a series of platinum complexes which include different bidentate bridging ligands, but I'm really unsure about the strictly correct way to name and formulate them.

The basic structure looks like this:



Where L1 represents one of the ligands I prepared (which in turn has a huge name, as you may imagine).

The formula which I would propose is:

[Trans-{PtCl2(dmso)}2(μ-L1)]

But I really can't decide if it's stricly correct. Some of my thoughts include introducing " N,N'- " before " L1 " and/or an additional parenthesis before " Trans- ". I'd really appreciate some help.

I would put the "trans" inside the curly bracket. You are not referring to two PtCl2DMSO units trans to each other (are you?).
And it doesn't have a capital T, even at the beginning of a sentence.

That's something I was wondering and it certainly makes more sense, so thanks for your answer.

What if I would want to name it? I thought about a couple of possibilities:

μ-('huge-name-of-L1'-κ2N,N')bis(trans-dichlorodimethylsulfoxideplatinum(II))

μ-('huge-name-of-L1'-κ2N,N')-trans-tetrachlorobisdimethylsulfoxidediplatinum(II)

Probably both are wrong, I suppose...

I prefer the first version, though I would put brackets round "dimethylsulfoxide" so the casual reader doesn't start thinking of two separate methyl ligands...
I don't like the second version at all, not nearly as clear.
