Hi. I am currently doing some studying on flow injection analysis (FIA) and there are a few things that confuse me. Would anyone be able to explain to me how a dispersion factor in context of FIA can be defined?
In my understanding the dispersion can be described using D=C0/Cmax. The value of D obtained differentiate the FIA systems are into high (~10) to low(~2) dispersion systems depending on the degree of dispersion of the injected zone at the read out point. The factors that affect the dispersion are flow-rate, length of tube used and its inner diameter and method of injection used. In terms of process analysis how a low dispersion system can be acheived? Would low injection volumes and fast flow rate combined with long tubing produce low dispersion? I am looking for examples of applications of such systems. Any explanation on this topic or reference to any materials that I can have a reading on would be very much appreciated! Thanks!
