how can I synthetisize Cyclopentadione?
« on: February 21, 2016, 12:48:48 PM »
I am sure there is a easy preparational method to receiving 1,3-cyclopentadione but all infos in interent wants me to pay 40 like bucks for leaking this info. Would please someone say how to get this? :)
Is it possible to archieve a intramolecular condensation with 5-hydroxy-3-keto-pentanal? I guess not, but I don't know a way, neitehr claisen/dieckmann, aldole reaction... I think I have to use some reagents for that..

Draw a synthetic plan of how you think you could get there. If its wrong I or someone else can correct you. However, you can buy this from Sigma for £40...

If I would know how to do this, I wouldn't ask here... perhaps if I would go from succinic aldejyde and induce a substitution where a carbon comes in, that would work somehow, I know it, I just don't know how exactly.

If you show an attempt at an answer people will help you out, even if you a wrong, you will learn from others.

You are thinking along the right lines with succinic aldehyde but I would not do it this way. I would go via a different compound with an acidic alpha hydrogen.
